{"id":66273,"date":"2026-02-04T02:00:00","date_gmt":"2026-02-04T07:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.tradestation.com\/insights\/?p=66273"},"modified":"2026-02-04T08:28:44","modified_gmt":"2026-02-04T13:28:44","slug":"sofi-put-roll","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tradestation.com\/insights\/2026\/02\/04\/sofi-put-roll\/","title":{"rendered":"Options Alert: More Downside in SoFi?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>SoFi Technologies has been sliding despite positive news, and one big options trader could be looking for more downside.<\/p>\n<p>This transaction was detected Tuesday afternoon in the fintech company:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>20,000 March 22 puts were sold for $2.02.<\/li>\n<li>10,000 March 20 puts were purchased for $1.07.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Volume was below open interest in the 22 puts but not the 20s, which suggests an existing position was closed and rolled to the lower strike.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tradestation.com\/insights\/2024\/05\/12\/the-basics-of-options\/\">Puts<\/a> can gain value when prices fall because they fix the level where investors can sell securities.<\/p>\n<p>Yesterday\u2019s trader likely bought the March 22 puts at an early date and made money as the stock fell. He or she apparently took profits and rolled to the lower strike, cutting the number of contracts in half.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_66274\" style=\"width: 1930px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-66274\" class=\"size-full wp-image-66274\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.tradestation.com\/uploads\/sites\/2\/SOFI_20260203.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1920\" height=\"918\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cdn.tradestation.com\/uploads\/sites\/2\/SOFI_20260203.jpg 1920w, https:\/\/cdn.tradestation.com\/uploads\/sites\/2\/SOFI_20260203-300x143.jpg 300w, https:\/\/cdn.tradestation.com\/uploads\/sites\/2\/SOFI_20260203-1024x490.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/cdn.tradestation.com\/uploads\/sites\/2\/SOFI_20260203-768x367.jpg 768w, https:\/\/cdn.tradestation.com\/uploads\/sites\/2\/SOFI_20260203-1536x734.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/cdn.tradestation.com\/uploads\/sites\/2\/SOFI_20260203-1080x516.jpg 1080w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1920px) 100vw, 1920px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-66274\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><em>SoFi Technologies (SOFI), daily chart, with select patterns and indicators.<\/em><\/p><\/div>\n<p>Making the adjustment would have generated a net credit of $2.97 million and kept the investor exposed to further downside.<\/p>\n<p>SOFI fell 1.45 percent to $21.76 yesterday and is down 17 percent so far this year. The company reported better-than-expected earnings and revenue last Friday. It attempted to rally on the news, but sellers drove it lower in the first 90 minutes of trading.<\/p>\n<p>The stock is now below its November low and 200-day moving average, which could be viewed as a longer-term breakdown.<\/p>\n<p>Despite being a financial, SOFI has been viewed like a technology company because of its potentially disruptive growth model.
