Presented by Stanley Dash, CMT, Vice President of Applied Technical Analysis

Strategy trading gives you the ability to test your ideas before risking your money and helps you eliminate emotions from your trading to make better, more informed trading decisions.

This is the first of two strategy trading primers designed to welcome you to the world of strategy trading: development, testing and automation. Stanley Dash, CMT, VP, Applied Technical Analysis, clears up some of the confusion and controversy surrounding trading strategies. Stan discusses the value of working with strategies, even for the most skeptical traders. He introduces the tools TradeStation offers for working with strategies, and provides an overview of the tasks that are part of the process of development, testing and automation. Stan pays special attention to clarifying the jargon related to working with trading strategies.

Among the topics Stan covers are:

  • What is “strategy trading”?
  • Categorizing strategies: style and time horizon
  • Strategy components: signals, entries, exits, etc.
  • Overview of TradeStation’s tools for strategy testing
  • Understanding market data: it’s all about the bars.
